If there’s a time of year when South Korea becomes even more special, it’s undoubtedly spring. The cold winter give way to warmer days, and with them, cherry blossoms start to bloom, covering the cities with pink. Busan, my favorite city in Korea, is no exception—here, the “beotkkot” (벚꽃, cherry blossoms) fever is experienced with particular intensity.
WHY SPRING IN BUSAN IS SO SPECIAL
Spring is by far my favorite season in Korea! Summer is way too hot, and winter is too cold, but spring and autumn are just perfect. What makes spring stand out is the breathtaking cherry blossoms, which completely transform the city!
These trees were strategically planted in places where people can walk for long stretches. Take beautiful pictures, and fully enjoy the stunning views! In this post, I’ll talk about the incredible cherry blossoms in Busan—when they bloom, the best time to see them, and the best spots to admire them!
WHY I LOVE LIVING IN BUSAN
Busan is my favorite city to live in South Korea. It offers a more relaxed atmosphere compared to Seoul, which can sometimes feel overwhelming. What makes Busan truly incomparable for me is its proximity to the sea.
The city has incredible beaches, you can read more in my post YOUR ULTIMATE GUIDE TO BUSAN’S BEST BEACHES 2024. This coastal presence makes the climate more pleasant year-round. The ocean has a calming effect on the people, making the city’s vibe much more laid-back. Busan is simply the best!
CULTURAL SIGNIFICANCE OF CHERRY BLOSSOMS
But what makes these trees so special? Beyond their beauty, cherry blossoms hold deep cultural significance in Korea. They represent the fleeting nature of life, reminding us that everything is temporary and that beauty lies in transience.
For Koreans, the arrival of cherry blossoms marks not only the change of seasons but also a time of renewal and new beginnings. Because of this, cherry blossom season is widely celebrated across the country, with numerous festivals dedicated to these stunning flowers.

1. WHEN TO SEE CHERRY BLOSSOMS IN BUSAN

The exact dates vary each year depending on the weather, but generally, cherry blossoms in Busan bloom between late March and early April. It’s best to check the bloom forecasts a few weeks before your trip since the window to see the blossoms at their peak is short, usually one to two weeks.
To ensure you catch the perfect moment, aim for the middle of the blooming season, when most trees are in full bloom but the petals haven’t started falling yet. That said, witnessing a pink petal shower in the wind is also a magical experience.

2. BEST PLACES TO SEE CHERRY BLOSSOMS

While Seoul and Jinhae are often in the spotlight for cherry blossom festivals, Busan has its own charm with fewer crowds. Here are my favorite spots:
1. ONCHEONCHEON STREAM (온천천)
One of the best places to enjoy cherry blossoms without leaving the city. This stream, surrounded by walking paths and bike lanes, turns into a pink tunnel during spring. It’s an ideal spot for a stroll, photography, or simply sitting and admiring the view. The best time to visit is at sunset when the light filters through the petals, creating a magical atmosphere.
2. DALMAJI HILL (달마지골드로드)
Located near Haeundae, this hill is famous for its panoramic views and cherry trees lining the road. The walk is a bit steep, but it’s worth it. From here, you can see the ocean blending with the pink hues of the blossoms—a sight you’ll never forget.
3. SAMNAK ECOLOGICAL PARK (삼락생태공원)
Located along the Nakdonggang River, this park is less touristy, meaning you can enjoy the cherry blossoms without the crowds found in more popular spots. The trails here are perfect for walking or biking under a tunnel of flowers.
4. PUKYONG NATIONAL UNIVERITY
This is a very special spot for me since it was my university! Every day, when I went to classes, I was lucky enough to experience the beauty of the cherry blossoms in full bloom. I highly recommend this area because it’s easy to get to, and you can walk through a lovely cherry blossom street without any cars. It’s the perfect place to take pictures and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
5. HWANGNYONGSAN MOUNTAIN (황령산)
If you’re up for a bit of adventure, hiking up Hwangnyongsan Mountain is a fantastic way to experience cherry blossoms in Busan. As you make your way up the trails, you’ll be surrounded by countless cherry trees, making the hike a truly magical experience. Once you reach the top, you’re rewarded with what I believe to be the best view of Busan. From here, you can see a vast expanse of the city, stretching all the way to the coastline—a breathtaking sight that makes the climb well worth it.

3. A BONUS TIP : NIGHTTIME CHERRY BLOSSOMS

Something that few tourists do—but I highly recommend—is visiting cherry blossoms at night. In some places, like Oncheoncheon Stream, lights are installed on the trees, giving them a golden glow and creating a completely different atmosphere from daytime. It’s an almost dreamlike spectacle.
WHAT TO BRING FOR THE BEST EXPERIENCE
While spring brings more pleasant temperatures, Busan’s weather can be unpredictable. It may feel warm during the day, but temperatures drop significantly in the evening and at night. I recommend bringing a light jacket or coat so you can stay comfortable throughout the day and fully enjoy your walk without worrying about sudden chills.

4. WHERE AND WHEN TO ENJOY THE SPRING MAGIC

Spring in South Korea is something special—especially when the cherry blossoms bloom, transforming the cities with a pink veil. In Busan, the “beotkkot” (벚꽃, cherry blossoms) fever is felt particularly strongly, and this season is an exciting time for Korean families.
After a long, cold winter, the warmer days bring a welcome change. Korean families love this time of year because it gives them a chance to step out of the cold and embrace the beauty of the blossoming flowers. It’s also the perfect opportunity for them to dress up, take photos, and enjoy a nice walk or a coffee while admiring the cherry blossoms.
Spring is an exciting season for couples too. During this time, Korean couples love dressing in matching pastel colors, often coordinating their outfits to match the pink hues of the blossoms. It’s a chance for them to capture the beauty of the season with some memorable couple photos, which are then proudly shared on social media.

5. FINAL THOUGHTS

The cherry blossom season in South Korea is more than just a natural phenomenon—it’s a cultural event that invites contemplation and celebration of fleeting beauty. In Busan, away from the hustle and bustle of more touristy destinations, you can experience this in a more relaxed and authentic way. Throughout Korea, numerous festivals are held in honor of the cherry blossoms, where people gather to appreciate the beauty, take photos, and enjoy special events.
If you have the chance to visit in spring, don’t miss it: it’s a time when the city transforms, dresses in pink, and offers unforgettable moments.
